Peers inside the temporal void at the centre of Henry James's Portrait of a Lady, investigating its cause by narrative prolepsis (or flashforward), and its consequences in the epistemological uncertainty of the experience of reading. Draws on Sianne Ngai's concept of the "interesting" as support.
